Artist Statement: This original painting is on brown A3 craft paper with acrylic paint, pressed marigold flower petals grown in my garden & a dried, rusted skeleton leaf that was stuck to a mental flower pot in my garden. Framed in light brown A3 frame.
I visited the National Portrait Gallery in London last year and was transfixed by the opulence and finery of the clothing and jewellery worn in the 16th century English court. I took photos of the richly woven textiles and gemstones worn by Henry VIII’s ill fated wives and have since enjoyed copying the unknown court painters of long ago. The beheading of Anne Boleyn has reached almost mythical status as we all understand the significance of this work titled Chopping Block!
Materials and process: Chopping Block is an acrylic painting on a solid piece of timber, which can either be hung on a wall or stand alone on a flat surface. It is a copy of an oil painting which was completed by a long forgotten artist in the court of Henry VIII in the mid 1500’s. Its title Chopping Block is part of the story of Anne Boleyn, who was condemned to death by her fickle and ill tempered husband. He married his third wife on the day of Anne’s beheading.

Artist Statement: I never know what I’m going to paint, it evolves from a colour wash and I run with it. I thought this painting’s story was initially about the energetic structural power of the pyramid. After it was completed I wondered about the significance of 7 moons sinking or emerging from the water and I was delighted to discover the legendary Philippine Myth about Bakunawa the fierce Dragon who ruled the oceans and devoured the 7(sisters) moons. I love it when a painting tells me its story.

98. Every Where we Look

Artwork size (in cm): W76 x H61
Artwork Price: $800
Artist Statement: My mother was Irish. As a child she picked 4 leaf clovers, spoke to ‘the little people’ and insisted “she’d seen a leprechaun”.
The Irish take their stories and myths very seriously. Poignant and exciting, underlining a love of family and community, they are often quite playful. All types of fairies are said to live in the mountains, forests, bogs, lakes and caves. Their ancient forts and mounds serve as entrances to the Otherworld. I’m proud of my Irish heritage of resilience and optimism.
Materials and process: I am inspired by the Colour Field artists of the 1960’s for the way they used space in their paintings to create a new way of seeing. My paintings have evolved from structured designs to a more expansive abstract application. When developing a painting I often combine an overhead view with traditional perspective. Using acrylic paint, I work in layers, several colours at a time, exploring different ideas. I try to avoid clutter. My language is colour land geometry. With this painting I tried to create a mood of otherworldliness.
