And so it all Begins

2. And so it all Begins

Amy Davis

Artwork size (in cm): 75cms wide 50 cms high
Artwork Price: $275

Artist Statement: Time is my inspiration. I was always taught, time moves fast so we must move faster to keep up with it.
Life has taught me to disagree.
Time is ours to have, to hold, to slow it down, to exist in the moment.
I see beautiful things everywhere, I now stop, I let the moment in.
I cherish the value that time has afforded me to be there. I capture a frame.
“And so it Begins” is a frame for you, your story to tell, to imagine, to wonder, to create.
A little bit of my time gifted to you.

Materials and process: Photo image printed on a premium cotton canvas.

Artwork size (in cm): 40 x 50cm
Artwork Price: $400

Artist Statement: Landscape photographer inspired by Ansel Adams. My aim is to document nature in situ, using contrasting light and shadows. An amateur photographer, it’s a joy to be amongst the natural world exploring and sharing.

Materials and process: Shot with Nikon Z9 mirrorless camera using an 85mm lens at 1.8. This is one of the 70 odd Scribbly Gums that are part of the biodiverse environment called Wallum at Brunswick Heads that are earmarked for removal in the face of a housing development. A group of photographers have been documenting the natural environment that exists in this rare heathland in an attempt to preserve it.

Blink of an Eye

4. Blink of an Eye

Artwork size (in cm): 50 x 50
Artwork Price: $290

Artist Statement: Primarily a landscape painter, I use my photography as source material but in this work I have used the medium as a direct vehicle for expression. This photograph tells a story about speed, travelling in the fast lane on a French expressway, a quick phone photograph, commercially printed and framed. It is a story of how we try to hold memories that so quickly flash and fade, a story of the fast journey through life that keeps gaining speed, a 21st century odyssey gone in the blink of an eye.

Materials and process: I’m interested in the way photography captures single moments but also the way print qualities and framing possibilities can also contribute significantly to the ideas conveyed by an image. The blurred, slightly pixilated phone image (cropped but no filters) and the commercial giclee printing and brushed aluminium framing of the photograph capture not only that brief moment in time but also convey the speed and nature of contemporary life as we journey through the 21st century.

Artist: Cameron Pitcher

Artwork size (in cm): 27 (w) x 35 (h)
Artwork Price: $360

Artist Statement: We are living in a time of great conflict, tension and anxiety. The image, “tightly bound”, is an expressive reflection of the repressive dynamics underlying many of the social movements, social structures and behaviour patterns of our time. Repression, projection, judgementalism, intolerance, moralism, subjugation, power dynamics and controlling behaviours, et cetera – the many ways we bind ourselves and each other up in knots

Materials and process: Printed on Canson Rag Photographique stock and framed under high quality TrueVue glass.

Artist Statement: Local amateur photographer inspired by Ansel Adams. This photograph highlights a legend in the making. Local indie musician Milla from band Loose Content owns the camera and highlights her fierce determination in her quest for musical recognition.

Materials and process: Shot on a Nikon Z9 mirrorless camera with a 24-70mm lens. The open doors to a front porch presented the perfect frame, with a peak into this 50’s inspired home. I believe it captures a fierce determination and a will to achieve success in a world where people often shine then disappear.

Artist Statement: This digital artwork represents stories within stories; the story of a friendship where each has their own individual stories as well as collective stories.
It is my story; a white woman of Celtic ancestry, part of those who colonised Australia. A “Saltwater Woman;” who expresses herself through visual arts and dance.
It is the story of her friend, First Nations, Peramangk elder, part of the Stolen Generations; a beautiful, creative, strong woman.
It speaks of the dreaming of both cultures.

Materials and process: This digital artwork was created using Procreate.
Procreate is a raster graphics editorapp for digital painting developed and published by the Australian company Savage Interactive for iOS and iPadOS.
The artist fused and layered photographic portraits with permission, photographic images of land, water and skies with images of the Pleiades constellation and humpback whales drawn and painted by the artist.
The digital art work was printed on Fine Art Photo Satin Paper then simply framed with off white mattes and black frame.

Artist Statement: These works explore the connections we have with each other and our environment. I lean toward a rich colour palette to bring the work to life, incorporating textures and patterns to represent air, sky, mood and atmosphere. I’m a digital artist and designer drawing from the natural world on Bundjalung Country and the people & creatures around me for inspiration. My artwork often depicts tiny moments of knowing between two beings; a touch or revelation

Materials and process: Digital art printed on 300gsm cotton rag with archival inks and framed in a mid tone wooden frame. The “photographic” element in this artwork, of the woman’s face & hair is AI generated by Bec in Midjourney, under a creative commons license.

11. Fossil Fuel Lungs

Artist: Cameron Pitcher

Artwork size (in cm): 45 x 42 cm (print size)
Artwork Price: $480
Contact for Sale of Prints:  cpitcher99@gmail.com

Artist Statement: As a consequence of dualistic thought, we tend to think and act as if nature is an object, which gives rise to the distorted view (myth) that we have separation from it. In response, my nature images lean toward the personal and the intimate; softening the boundary between inside and outside; between nature image and portrait. Aesthetically borrowing from x-ray, botanical and landscape photography, this composite image considers the impact of fossil fuel emissions on the “lungs” of the Earth.

Materials and process: The image is a digital art piece composed of photographic images. It has been printed on Canson Rag Photographique stock and framed under high quality TrueVue glass.
