#152 A Symphony of Scrap

Artist: Luke Oliver

Artist Statement:
The essence of my work lies in the thrill of discovery, turning discarded, rusted relics of the past into vibrant and lively sculptures that radiate with character. I believe in the power of the unexpected. I thrive on the challenge of working with unconventional materials and giving them new life, coaxing stories from the discarded and hidden within the mundane. Through my work, I aspire to spread happiness and create a sense of wonder.

Materials and Process:
This art work was inspired by dance by Matisse, it comprised of 5 figures dancing in a circle in various positions having a celebration, it’s made from a variety of found materials and assembled using a MIG welder, pliers and bolt cutters, I was aiming to make the figures look as if they were in motion possibly celebrating a great achievement or a spectacular event, the figures are made from old spoon handles spark plugs sockets and nails.
