Artist Statement:
Dr. Shane Thwaites recently moved home from an inner suburb of Melbourne to the Northern Rivers. “Captive Audience” serves as a poignant message from the artist to their new community. It reflects the artist’s feelings of being thrust into a small town, where the eyes of judgment and gossip surround them like a glass bowl. The metaphorical fishbowl, in which the artist feels exposed and scrutinised, becomes a powerful symbol of isolation and vulnerability.
