#6 Frontier

Artist: Lesley Jenkins

Artist Statement:
My work is a celebration of nature and new horizons, especially after a year of personal calamity. The glyphs ( personal hieroglyphs or symbols) located in the background are dramatic expressions of flight which hover over a quirky but majestic landscape of the imagination.
I completed a Certificate of Visual Art at Byron Community College in 2015 and a year at Byron School of Art a couple of years later. My art is an exploration of different media and ideas.

Materials and Process:
My work is painted on canvas which has a double overlay of gesso which forms the ground. I have used professional ‘Golden’ brand acrylic paints. Many colours have been used in the painting and they have been overlaid with a limited palette of cobalt blue and raw umber. This is to integrate the work and to create an harmonious and peaceful feel to the work. The colour underneath is revealed through scratching with my fingernails and a credit card, which has created a gateway to other worlds and their stories. The completed work has been fixed with Langrides wax varnish. The work is professionally framed with a shadow frame of Tasmanian Oak which has been hand finished with wax.
