Artist: Cheryl Bailey
My inspiration came from reading about Frank Mills. Frank had been writing stories and poems about the history and culture of the Brunswick Valley his entire life. I imagined if he were still alive, that I would love to have a picnic with Frank. I do believe that going on a picnic is one of life’s greatest celebrations. I thought of Manet’s, ‘Le Dejeuner sur l’herbe’ and I married the two. The image is surrounded with 20 boxes to represent 20 years of celebrating the Ocean Shores Art Expo.
Materials and Process:
‘Celebrating a Luncheon on the Grass with Frank’ was painted on a red ground with acrylic paint, it is framed in a pine floating frame painted black.
Size: 30 x 40 cm
